Description
Carl Puttnam and Alaric Neville - Old Masters
A compilation of songs Carl has written and sung since his move back to Leeds from London in 1999, this album fills in the long gap in his musical canon 'twixt CUD's "Donkey with a Fez On" in 1998 and the 2012 CUD tour.
"The Old Masters" is thirteen recordings made over the past thirteen years, featuring a vast array of Leeds' finest musical talents; Chumbas, Scaramanga6, Ellen and the Escapades, Bridewell Taxis and others, not forgetting all of the original CUD - together, more or less...
Seven Carl Puttnam originals written in collaboration with old CUD colleagues, Mike Dunphy, William Potter and long-time "Audio Alchemist" Alaric Neville.
Three songs written for Carl (one by the Chumba's Boff Whalley and two by the Oyster Band's Alan Prosser) and two covers; including a new interpretation of the song that launched CUD's career - "You Sexy Thing".
Some of these tracks come from the sunset days of analogue tape, some LoFi, others the most celestial in the highest HiFidelity.
Recorded at various locations in Leeds and the Greater Yorkshire as the mood and muse took him.
No album will ever sound the same or be made in the same way again.
During its long gestation, Carl would muse that this work shared its roots with the Laurel Canyon collaborations of Dave Crosby and Stephen Stills; a sort of Gledhow Valley Sound.
At other times the sessions would recall the friendly co-operation and hedonistica of Nilsson's N-Schmilsson; only less Brandy Alexander and more Manhattan or Rusty Nail.
He's back and he knows where it's at!
So take off your gloves and enjoy.
